Mary Ruth (Broadhead) Reed

Mary Ruth Broadhead Reed, surrounded by her family, passed away at her home on March 22, 2018.   She was 90 years old and the fourth of eight siblings.  Her story begins helping her father and other family members start  Assembly of God Churches in rural areas such as Needham,  Yarbo (1942)  and Jackson, AL (1946).  She graduated from Chatom High School in 1946 at the age of eighteen.  While she was attending Livingston College, she started teaching at Needham Elementary School.  Mary also taught school at Bladon Springs and Nanafalia.   While teaching at a little bitty two room school in McIntosh, AL,  she met her husband of 63 years, JB Reed, who was enlisted in the US Marine Corp.  From McIntosh, Mary moved to Chatom and began teaching there.  She retired from teaching after thirty seven years.  She was a life-long member of Hobson Assembly of God.  Mary enjoyed working in her flower gardens and spending time with her loving family. 

Visitation will be Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10:00-11:00 AM, at Hobson Assembly of God.  Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM.  Officiating will be Bro. Steve Foster, Bro. Bob Younge and Bro. Nick Ross with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.  Interment will be at the Bright Water Cemetery, Needham, AL.
