Rosalie Downey, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2004.
Mrs. Downey was married to Robert E. Downey "Bob" on May 21, 1948 until his passing on September 12, 2008. Together they raised two beautiful children. Tootsie, as she was so lovingly called by her family and friends, made a loving home in Sunflower, Al.
Mrs. Downey was a smart, hard working woman who cherished her family and friends. For many years she volunteered with the local Nutrition Center and would organize a comical musical skit known as the Young at Heart Variety Show to raise money for the non profit organization. She brought many tears of joy and laughter to the community, as she would dress up as Mini Pearl with the hat, "price tag" and all. Prior to her doing this, she was the orator for a local band called The Back Street Band. She was quite the character.
In her early, early years, she traveled the world as a Color Consultant for "Miss Clairol". As busy as she kept her life, she always made time for her family and friends. Her smile and personality was bigger than life itself and she leaves us here with a big "Howdyyyyy".
Mrs. Tootsie will forever remain in our hearts and fondest memories. She will be missed by all. Those who knew her, and those who heard of her.
Mrs. Downey is survived by: Her son, Larry Downey; her daughter, Diane Walker; her brother, Steve (Joanne) Foster; her grand children, Heath Erin Walker and Jamie (Michael) Sullivan; six great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Downey is preceded in death by: Her husband, Robert E. Downey, her parents, Solomon and Mattie Foster; her sister, Shirley "Noonie" Sellers and her granddaughter, Joanna Downey.
A visitation will be held at the Sunflower United Methodist Church in Sunflower, Al. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 am. Funeral at 12:00 pm with Bro. Steve Foster officiating. Interment to follow at the Sunflower United Methodist Church Cemetery.
