James "Jim" Bertram Reeves, went home to be with the Lord on December 11, 2018. His 80 years on this earth were filled with his love of God, country, family and friends. Jim proudly served in the US Army, Army Reserves, and Civil Service for a total of 26 years. He received many awards and commendations during this time before retiring from all services as Command Sergeant Major (E9) in 1998. Jim and his devoted wife of over 60 years, Joyce Dungan Reeves, attended Mardi Gras in Mobile, AL, for many years, and even served as president and king and queen of the 49ers ball from 1973-1974. Jim loved his daughter. He also cherished his grandchildren, and great grandchildren spending endless hours watching them play sports. Jim attended Peniel Baptist church, enjoyed bowling, playing golf, traveling, and had a servant's heart that never met a stranger. Jim was preceded in death by his mother Lucille Dortch Reeves Horton. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Laura Townsend (Kim), grandson Joey Cramblitt (Lisa), granddaughters Brandy Sullivan (Shawn) and Joy McGill (Brady), as well as his great grandchildren James Cramblitt, Connor Sullivan, Emory Sullivan, Nolan Sullivan, Amelia McGill, Liam McGill, and Ellie McGill.
A memorial service with full military honors offered by Ft. Rucker will take place on January 5, 2019 at 1:00pm at Pilgrims' Rest Primitive Baptist Church in Jackson, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
