Kenneth Dwight Thompson, SR

Kenneth Dwight "Poppy" Thompson, Sr., 72, died at his home surrounded by his loving family February 21, 2018.  He was a member of Hobson Assembly of God Church where he loved his church & the Lord.He retired from CWEMC with 35 years of service.  "Poppy", (as he was called by so many that loved him), enjoyed turkey hunting, deer hunting, and white perch fishing with his sweetheart, Sybil. He loved trail riding and rode with The Dixie National Trail Ride for over seven years. Poppy loved his dog, Trapper and his horse, Cowboy. He spent alot of time with his three grandsons, teaching them about life.  Poppy was a father and grandfather to so many other than his own three children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2018, 11:00 - 12:00 Noon, Hobson Assembly of God with the Funeral Service following at 12 Noon. Rev. Steve Foster and Rev. Darrell Butts will be officiating with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing. Interment will be at Jones Beech Cemetery.

He stood tall and strong, he was a large man

A towering presence with strong arms and big hands 

His soul belonged to the Lord, and his heart to his family 

Some knew him as Kenneth, but most knew him as just Poppy 

A husband and father, grandfather, uncle and brother, 

A friend to many, and everyone he met knew he was unlike any other 

He had a gravely voice with an infectious smile

And everyone knew his family was the greatest source of his pride 

His body become weary, and God began calling his name 

It was almost time to go, that glorious place where there’s no pain 

Full of love and sorrow, his family gathered round 

To see him through the gates of Heaven to that angel trumpet sound 

As he crossed over to heaven, a place with no sorrow

Jesus took his hand and said “your body is healed, and here there is always a tomorrow.”

We pray for comfort in the days to come 

For his family that he so dearly loved 

He said don’t be sad for him, he had some mighty fine friends and family waiting on him to come home 

And we know he will be waiting on us when we come along.
