Otto Milstead Obituary

Otto Oswald Milstead

September 1, 1923 – September 16, 2019

We regret to report the passing of Otto Oswald Milstead, beloved husband, father, and a friend to many.  Otto lived a full and rewarding life.  Born in Clarke County, Alabama, he lived in many places, including Jackson, Ala; Robertsdale, Ala; Moulton, Ala; Greenville, Ala; Huntsville, Ala; Summerville, Georgia; and Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Otto graduated from Jackson High School and served as a Mason for over 60 years, including as Master Mason in the Jackson, Alabama, lodge.  He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II serving on the European front as a radar specialist.

After serving in the military, Otto returned to Jackson to work for Vanity Fair (Clarke Mills).  Eventually, he left for other companies and retired as a garment manufacturing consultant, a position that took him to Brazil.  Otto was active in the Methodist Church, especially in Jackson, Robertsdale, and Moulton.

As the next to last child of Allen McLeod Milstead and Fannie Gertrude Oswald Milstead, Otto was the last of his siblings to pass.  His siblings were Irma Bumpers, Aubrey Milstead, Ray Milstead, Eula McMullen, Leola Horton, Aline Milstead, Eva Horton, and Emmarene Dolbear.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Lee Horton Milstead; three children - Phillip Lee Milstead, David Ross Milstead (spouse Wanda Faye Terrebonne Milstead), and Dr. Wanda Milstead Couch (spouse Paul Keith Couch) - and three grandsons - Michael David Milstead, Andrew Christian Couch, and Joshua (Josh) Thomas Couch.

Funeral services for Otto will be in the Wesley Chapel Community Cemetery in Winn, Alabama, next to the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church on September 21, 2019 @ 9AM.  Officiating will be Rev. Tommy Gaillard under the direction of St. Stephens Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Winn Community Cemetery, C/O Martha Hayes, 4600 Winn Road, Jackson, AL 36545.
