Audrey Christine Overstreet Palmer passed away peacefully at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Georgia surrounded by her family on March 28, 2026. Audrey was born in Alma, Alabama on June 7, 1934, to the late Fletcher Overstreet, Sr. and Lula Marshall Overstreet. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joe Pace Palmer; sisters Martha Jackson, Marilyn Woodyard and Wilda Gilchrist; and brothers Lonnie Overstreet, Thomas Overstreet, and Fletcher Overstreet, Jr. Audrey graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. Audrey was a long time, active member of First Baptist Church in Leroy, Alabama.
Audrey had a deep commitment to her Lord. She cherished her family and made many friends over the years. Her service at First Baptist Leroy included serving in the Youth Department, serving as Director for the Joe Pace Palmer Sunday School class, and hosting a variety of events and fellowships. She and her husband, Joe, met on a blind date, were married on November 9, 1958, and they had one daughter. As her daughter married, her family grew to include a son-in-law, as well as two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren with a fifth on the way. Audrey loved visiting with everyone, especially her friends in Leroy. She and Joe spent many Saturdays cheering for the Auburn Tigers in Jordan Hare Stadium.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ellen Gordon and her husband Chip. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Katie Warden and her husband Hunter, and Abbie Montgomery and her husband Andrew. Great grandchildren are Hannah Warden, Oliver Montgomery, Madeline Warden, and Elliott Montgomery. Her sister is Geraldine Dumas and her husband Sam. Her brother is Louie Overstreet and his wife Peggy. Also surviving are many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Arrangements are by St. Stephens Funeral Home. A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in Leroy on Thursday, April 2 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. A livestream of the service will be posted on the church’s Facebook page as well as their YouTube channel. Interment will be at First Baptist Church Leroy Cemetery.
