Delores Zakary Obituary

Patricia Delores Brown Zakary

05/03/1939 – 04/27/2020

Patricia Delores Brown Zakary went to be with Jesus on Monday, April 27, 2020. She was 80 years old.

Delores was a pillar of faithfulness for her family and the generations that have followed after her.  She had an unwavering faith in God and knew throughout her life that He had prepared a place for her in Heaven. She loved like Jesus, and was selfless, and kind.  She had a servant’s heart and gave from what she had to others.  She persevered through adversities with grace and forgiveness and was a wonderful example. She was a prayer warrior, and you knew if you asked her to pray, she would.  She also let us know, ‘this, too, shall pass’ as we went through the challenges that this life brings.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. Over the years, she taught Acteens, AWANA, was a Children’s Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the church choir. She treasured children and wanted them to learn all about God and taught them until her health declined. She loved her church!

Delores worked at The South Alabamian newspaper for 41 years.  She always said she enjoyed her job and worked until she was 75 years old.  She loved her co-workers and her many customers.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Gross and Nellie Brown, and her sister, Gail Brown O’Guynn.  She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raymond Zakary, son Ray (Bobbie) Zakary, daughters, Allison (Gene) Cleveland, and Elizabeth (Sam) Lawrence.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin Cleveland (Cassidy), Ry Cleveland (Erin), Jeremy Zakary, Trey Lambard, Victoria Cleveland Bergman (JD), Cameron Cleveland Candella (Taylor), Jessica Zakary Carns (Adam), Michael Kinoshita, Ronnie Kinoshita , and Andrea Lawrence.  Great-Grandchildren are David Cleveland, Lyla Cleveland, Cannon Gidley, Luke Lambard, Marlin Cleveland, Daxton Candella, Juniper Cleveland, and four new Great-Grandchildren due in 2020. She is also survived by sisters Ann Brown (Lamar) Reid, Mary Nell Brown (Ron) Shiflet, brothers-in-law Robert O’Guynn and Jay Zakary, sisters-in-law Barbara Zakary (Ronny) Johnston and Miriam Zakary Brown, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church of Jackson.  Details will be made public when the date is set.
