Obituary

Edwina Anderson Foster, 81, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Mobile Infirmary. Born in Linden, Alabama, on April 17, 1942, to Wiley Ed and Willie Mae Bridges Anderson, Mrs. Edwina met Ralph “Moosie” Foster and married him in 1957. They lived and loved until his death in 2015. Mrs. Edwina worked for many years at Vanity Fair in Jackson, Alabama, eventually becoming Assistant Plant Manager.

Mrs. Edwina was a person of extraordinary character who loved family, and people, with a deep, genuine love. She loved to laugh and did so with a wonderful laugh that infected everyone around her. Her ‘elderly’ friends loved to visit her because she could talk of the old days and tell stories from way back when. Her ‘young’ friends loved to visit her for the same reasons. She was the butt of many practical jokes played on her by grandkids and great grandkids. She was not to be pitied though, since she could give it back just as well as she got it from them. All of it led to more laughter and eventually to more stories.

All who stepped into Mrs. Edwina’s house were offered food and drink, and she wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Keeper of a very tidy house, she would carry on a conversation while sweeping under your feet. If you drank a cup of coffee, and accepted a second, you would have to get another spoon to stir it with since she would have already washed the first one.

In her later years, Mrs. Edwina, Nanny, Aunt Winnie, as she was known by friends and family, had some health problems that were challenging, but they never changed her personality. She maintained that lovely character that caused everyone to love her through it all. People who never had the pleasure to meet her in person, only need to be around her family for a little while and listen to the stories and laughter to feel like they had just met and became friends with her in those moments. The world is a less joyful place with her loss, but heaven just became more joyful. She will be greatly missed.
