Glenda Joan (Mowery) James

Glenda Joan Mowery James, age 90, passed away on May 11, 2026. She was born on a cold, snowy morning at home on January 5, 1936, to Glen E. and Edmonia Mowery. She was the first girl in over three generations.  She graduated from Charleston (TN) High School in 1954. After many years of raising five daughters she decided to go back to school to become a nurse and graduated in 1981.  She loved nursing and retired in 1994.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence "Buster" James, brothers Jack (Sylvia), Frank, David, and Billy (Lola). 

She is survived by her daughters, Joni (Dee) Outlaw of Livingston, Christi (Lawton) Nickle of Rocky Top, TN, Terri (Louis) Lafoe of Calhoun, TN, Adelle (Wayne) Baugh of Jackson, AL, and Susie Neugent of Jackson, AL. She is also survived by five bonus daughters, Shelia (Jeff) Spurlin, Kathy (Ron) Bankston, Janet (Rudy) Mora, Liz (Glenn) Farner, and Felicia DuBose.

She is also survived by grandchildren Jade (Ethan) Rule, Luke Brooks, Jonathan (Melissa) Baugh, Katie (Channing) Flowers, Patrick Callahan, Abby (J.T.) Givens, Kelly (Joe) Cebulko, and Logan Lafoe.  She is also survived by ten great grandchildren with one on the way, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with Brian Jemison, Karson Gates and James Harris officiating.  Visitation will begin two hours prior.  Interment will follow at Trinity Gardens with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Baugh, Jonathan Baugh, Channing Flowers, J.T. Givens, Joe Cebulko, and Logan Lafoe.  Honorary pallbearers are Dee Outlaw, Scott Pritchard, Sherry Moseley, Pat Greer, Betty Hall, and the Ladies Sunday School Class 5.
