Mrs. Hattie Parnell Turner, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on February 28, 2021. She was born on September 13, 1930, to parents, Monroe and Nora Howard Parnell, in Sunflower, AL. Mrs. Turner was a long-time resident of Sunflower and active member of the Sunflower United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as treasurer for many years. Mrs. Turner loved her immediate and extended family immensely and her treasured memories will always bring them peace. She especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren and visited with them often. Mrs. Turner loved flowers and always maintained a beautiful yard. She was also an avid Alabama Crimson Tide and Atlanta Braves fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom W. Turner; brothers, Buddy Parnell, Wilmer Parnell, Homer Lee Parnell, Rufus Parnell, Harmon Parnell, and Charles Ray Parnell; sisters, Mamie (Mama Coot) Gartman, Myrtle “Babe” (Curtis) Jones; and Nettie Williams; grandson, Davy Turner; and son-in-law, George King.
She is survived by her children, Tom Turner, Jr., Pat King, and David Turner; grandson, Matt (Sarah) Turner, and great grandchildren, Winnie Turner, Boone Turner and Jude Turner; sister, Hester Blankenship, Sister-n-Law Julia Parnell and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Mrs. Turner were conducted by Pastor Barbara Brewi and Reverend Jimmy Butts on March 2, 2021, at the Sunflower United Methodist Church followed by a graveside service and burial at the Turner Cemetery in Sunflower. She will be missed by all and everyone knows she is with her Heavenly Father.
