Mr. Henry Odell Caten went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2026, with his family by his bedside. Mr. Caten was a hardworking man who truly enjoyed life. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, dedicating many years of honorable service to his country. Following his military career, Mr. Caten worked at Ciba Geigy for many years, retiring as a chemical operator.
Mr. Caten loved his family beyond measure, and the joy that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him was immeasurable. He always kept candy for them, which they often said was the best they'd ever had. Affectionately known as PawPaw Odell, he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Caten found true fulfillment in nature. He spent countless hours fishing the local rivers and lakes, but it was hunting that stirred a special passion within him. He delighted in the quiet anticipation of dawn, waiting for the woods to come alive. Turkey hunting, in particular, was more than a sport—it was an art, requiring patience, skill, and a deep understanding of the land and its creatures. He cherished the camaraderie of hunting trips, often sharing stories and wisdom with friends and family, teaching younger generations about respect for wildlife and the importance of conservation. Whether tracking deer through autumn forests or listening for the elusive call of wild turkeys, Mr. Caten’s love for hunting was woven into the fabric of his life. These adventures brought him joy, and the memories of his time in the field will be treasured by all who joined him.
Spending time with his family was one of his favorite pastimes, and he read his Bible daily, finding strength and comfort in his faith. Mr. Caten was an active member of Barlow Chapel Community Church in Barlow, Millry, Alabama, and there is no doubt he will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Mr. Henry Odell Caten, the world won’t be the same without you in it, but we will cherish the beautiful memories you gave to each of us. Until we meet again, rest in the arms of Jesus.
