James Chester Andrews, Jr., was born on November 8, 1938, in Fulton, Alabama. He passed at his Walker Springs home on September 28, 2022, surrounded by his family. Chester was, as described by his family, one of a kind. He was an Army veteran. After his years in the service, he worked for 33 years before retiring. He also owned the Burger House in Grove Hill with his wife where they served many of us locals for many years. During his life here on earth he fathered four children, three sons and one daughter, with his beautiful wife of 64 years. Chester wasn't your typical "Old Man". He was still young at heart. He could outrun all of his children and grandchildren. In fact, when he was a young fella in school, he could run a 100-yard sprint in 10 seconds flat. As many of you witnessed, Chester would enjoy his hog hunting trips with his bay dogs, catch dogs, and his buddies. Chester left everyone in the dust. He was the fastest walker and runner out there--I think he even kept up with the dogs while everyone else tried to keep up with him. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, being the neighborhood watch, and keeping everyone in the family on their toes, but turkey hunting was his true passion. Chester leaves behind a true legacy-- a family and a large community that will miss him indefinitely. He was a spitfire little redhead but that didn't stop us from loving him for his heart of gold. Chester was blessed to have a large and devoted family that cared for him, but especially his son Sid, who never left his side and told him he loved him every step of the way, right along with his angel on earth, Mrs. Cynthia Wright, who has been the greatest blessing to this family for all she has done during her years as Chester's personal caregiver. His nurses and social workers with hospice have also been the greatest blessing during these terrible times, and most of them, especially Candice, have become family. Chester was blessed and grateful each day. He is no longer suffering and we hope to see him again soon when it's our time to go, but for now, we understand...heaven needed a hero.
