James Myers Obituary

Mr. James Douglas Myers went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 2026, with his family by his side. Mr. Myers was a quiet, reserved man, whose love for the Lord and steadfast faith were unmatched by any. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him Paw Paw Jim. He often delighted them with rides on his ATV and took them on joyful wagon rides, creating cherished memories they will hold dear forever. A true lover of nature, Mr. Myers found peace and happiness outdoors, watching birds and admiring the beauty of God’s creation. His appreciation for the simple joys of life was evident to everyone who knew him. Mr. Myers proudly served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1968, achieving the rank of E05. During his service, he was awarded a Sharpshooter Badge (M-1) and an Expert Badge (M-14), honors that reflected his dedication and skill. Though humble and unassuming, Mr. Myers was a man of great strength and character. His unwavering dedication to his family has left an indelible mark on their hearts, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him. Rest easy, Soldier, and thank you for your service. Your legacy will live on through those who loved you. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Douglas (Sandra) Myers, Gary (Peggy) Myers, J. Darwin (Leah) Myers, Carl (Mellanee) Myers and C. Kevin (Sandy) Myers, twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mable Dearmon Myers, parents, Roy Raymond Myers, Sr. and Bessie Bliss Myers, brothers, Roy Raymond Myers, Jr., Charles Bliss Myers, sisters Muriel Engle, Gladys Cummings, Violet Butler, Faye Gray and Barbara Dahlgren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00am, with only family and close friends at Barlow Community Church Cemetery, 2817 Barlow Road, Millry, AL. Officiating the service will be Brother Mark Guy. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Independent Community Church at 176 Horace Odom Road, Millry, AL 36558.
