Jamie Mackenzie Paul, 30, passed away at her home in Satsuma, Alabama, Friday, June 23, 2023. Born December 8, 1992, the third of four children to David Paul and Mary Elizabeth Ross Paul Powell, Mackenzie was a lover of music. Though she worked as a waitress in various restaurants, her lifelong passion was always to sing, to do it as her life’s work.
Having a beautiful, soulful voice, Mackenzie was always singing, around the house, in the car, wherever she was. Her voice could always be heard. She even attended Alabama Southern Community College on a music scholarship. Growing up, she participated in many pageants, dances, and other competitions where she could use her talents. Her two older sisters called her a ‘prima donna’, a title she was comfortable with, as she liked being in the limelight and performing, whether dancing, singing, cheering, or being the family comedian. The sisters even admitted to helping her become one!
As she aged a bit, Mackenzie utilized those God-given talents for Him, often by singing in church. A member of Tompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill, having been baptized there, Mackenzie began feeling the Lord leading her into a different direction. She had struggled over a number of years with emotional issues, a sickness, with her own internal demons, which led to self-destructive behaviors and addictions. She recognized her plight and was open about what effects it had on her and her family. She felt a desire to use her struggles to minister to others in the same situation, since she could understand what they were going through and just maybe, with God’s help, lead someone else out of that darkness.
Between those dark episodes, Mackenzie was a vibrant, funny lady who was the family comedian, the life of the party. She was one who loved hard and loved deeply. She was a talented, artistic person who could do amazing crafts. She was a definite ‘Momma’s girl’…though she was very close to her father as well. Mackenzie was the best mother she could be and loved her children deeply. She will be truly missed by those who loved her so dearly.
