Johnnie Earl Jones, Jr., 77, who was born and raised in Jackson, Alabama entered the gates of Heaven on November 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Johnnie was an active member of First Baptist Church of Leroy, and he lived his faith in the most genuine way, through quiet acts of kindness, open-handed generosity, and a willingness to help anyone in front of him. If he saw a need, he worked to fill it. If someone needed help, he was there. As a veteran, Johnnie served his country as a Sergeant E4 in the United States Army. His childhood love of hunting, paired with an extraordinary steady aim, earned him recognition as an award-winning sharpshooter during his service. Johnnie retired from Boise Paper Mill after 43 years. He and his wife also spent decades managing Old Line Water, helping build the system from infancy and working tirelessly to expand and maintain it so that thousands of residents could have clean, reliable water. Serving his community in this way was one of the great honors of his life. Johnnie especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. And he loved the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, and he passed that love on to the grandchildren, teaching them hunting and fishing skills, love of nature, and just the joy of time spent together. He was not just a grandfather, he was their “Poppa.” He had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for brightening any room with his jokes and quick wit. Above all, he loved the Lord. In his final days he told his family, “I’ve lived a great life, and I’m ready”. The Bible says that anyone who believes in Jesus and accepts Him as God’s only Son will be saved. Johnnie leaves behind a legacy of devotion, generosity, laughter, and steadfast faith. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Brenda Dolbear Jones, who faithfully walked beside him through every season of life. He is also survived by his children, Russ Jones (Jennifer) and Kelly Daspit (Tommy), grandchildren, Chase Jones, Wilder Jones, Pippa Daspit, and Evan Daspit, his honorary grandson, Michael Golson, sisters Sherry, Deanna, and Karen, brothers Wayne and Larry, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Earl Jones, Sr. and Eldred Bryan Jones, and sisters, Faye Pringle, Reba Overstreet, and Margie Overstreet.
