Louis Raymond Zakary Jr.

Louis Raymond Zakary Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. He was a member of Peniel Baptist Church.

Raymond grew up in Bucks, Alabama and learned to operate his daddy's heavy equipment at a very young age. In his late teens and early twenties, he won many trophies in drag races around the South Alabama area. His love of cars led to a high level of mechanical skills which he used to help many extended family members, and area Jackson residents, with their car repairs. You could usually describe your strange car noises, and he could diagnosis your car problem without even looking at the car! Raymond loved hunting, fishing, hiking and enjoyed trips to Colorado, Wyoming and the Canadian Rockies. In recent years, he loved Amicalola State Park and hiking on the Appalachian Trail. In the last few years, Raymond was an avid exercise enthusiast and could be found at Fit Life Gym maxing out the machines to the amazement of other gym members. He was active in the Silver Sneakers program and was a great encouragement to others in the class. He could be seen after class showing participants how to safely use the gym equipment.

Raymond was born to the late Louis Raymond Zakary Sr. and Margaret Sue Radcliff Zakary.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Delores Brown Zakary and sister, Barbara Zakary Johnston. He is survived by his children, Louis Raymond Zakary III (Bobbie), Allison Zakary Cleveland (Gene), and Elizabeth Zakary Lawrence (Sam).  He is survived by his grandchildren, Justin Cleveland, Ry Cleveland, Jeremy Zakary (Caitlin), Trey Lambard, Victoria Cleveland Bergman (JD), Cameron Cleveland, Jessica Zakary Carns (Adam), Michael Kinoshita, Veronica Kinoshita, and Andrea Lawrence. He is also survived by 15 Great-Grandchildren, sister, Miriam Zakary Brown, brother, Felix Jay Zakary, and special friend, Patricia Harvey.

A Memorial service will be held for Raymond on Saturday, November 15, at 11:00 A M at Peniel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 min before and after the service. Donations can be made to Peniel Baptist Church, Kingdom Builders, or Pilots for Christ.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
