Luverne Walker Obituary

Luverne Reeves Walker, 95, passed away at home Tuesday, February 7, 2023. A Jackson native, Mrs. Walker was born on August 5, 1927. She graduated from Jackson High School and met Roy Walker, who she married in 1947. As a couple for 50 years, they lived and raised their family in Jackson and also in Leroy, until his passing in 1997.

Mrs. Walker worked as a seamstress at Vanity Fair in Jackson for a number of years until she retired to care for her husband. Then, she was free to do the gardening she loved and to care for the family as a whole. It was said that she raised vegetables, two grandsons, and two great-grandsons in that garden. When she wasn’t canning vegetables, cooking, cultivating her flowers, or working with her chickens, Mrs. Walker loved to fish, which allowed her to rest her mind and soul as well as provide food for the table. She and Mr. Walker would take a yearly vacation in the mountains as a break from their full life of work, family, and hobbies.

Mrs. Walker, whose presence touched so many lives for so long, will be greatly missed.

She is survived by:

Daughter-in-law: Susan H. Walker

Grandsons: Christopher (Chrystal) Walker, Amon (Jennifer) Walker
