Mary A. Gates, 89, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at her home in Dickinson, Al.
Mrs. Gates was a kind and caring woman. She worked as a waitress at multiple establishments, such as Delmar and Alabama Grill in Thomasville, Al. She loved being able to serve others.
Mrs. Gates loved her family dearly. and enjoyed spending time with them. She was known as "Sally" or "Sister" to her siblings, and her grandchildren fondly called her Maw-Maw. She also enjoyed cooking. She was best known for her Chicken and Dumplings.
Mrs. Gates is survived by her sons, Bobbi (Debbie) Gates and Bennie (Andrea) Gates; her son-in-law but more like a son, Mike Powell; ; her sisters, Jean Sealy, Billie Jordan and Jane Miller; her grandchildren, Travis Powell, Tanya (Zach) Birmingham, Nathan (Crystal) Gates, Shay Gates and Cameron Gates; her great-grandchildren, Dalton (Hannah) Powell, Tangie Powell, Hunter Hughes and Rayleigh Powell and her great great-grandchildren, Addalyn Powell, Shay Gates and Walker Powell.
Mrs. Gates is preceded in death by her parents, Fed and Evie Morgan; her husband, William B. Gates; her brothers, James "Buddy" Morgan and Ossie Morgan; her sisters, Eturah Dunn and Maurice Flowers; her son, William M. Gates; her daughter, Judy Powell and her grandchild, Tracy Powell.
A graveside service will be held at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Scyrene, Al, with Bro. Gates officiating, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Bro.
