NICHOLAS DANE GATES “NICK”

Nicholas Dane Gates, lovingly known as Nick, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the age of 44. He was the proud father of Cameron Bumpers, Caden Bumpers, and Connor Bumpers. He and his estranged wife, Kamie Bumpers Gates, remained best friends throughout the years. Nick was born on August 18, 1978, the third son of proud parents, Everett Gates and Eugenea Gates Bartram. His two older brothers are Ryan Gates (JoEllen) of Jackson, AL and Marcus Gates of Axis, AL. His younger brother, Chandler Gates, was born to his father, Everett Gates, and stepmother, Tammy Gates. Nick currently resided with his mother and stepfather, John Bartram, in Axis, AL. He also has two stepsisters, Ashley Bedwell (Dannon) of Tuscaloosa, AL and Victoria Spencer (Nick) of Jamestown, NY. Nick’s most prominent characteristic was his personality and his love of people, which explains how he had so many friends. He knew and was known by many, and he was always there for them as they were for him. He was the type of person who would drop everything to help someone in need, whether he knew them or not. His heart was the size of the moon, and it was filled with love. He loved deeply and wasn’t shy about saying “I love you”. Coming from a large extended family on both sides probably helped to inspire some of that. Nick’s trade of choice was construction in which he excelled in welding. He also was a heavy equipment operator and has been known to say, “I can drive anything that has wheels” overall you could say he was a jack of all trades. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Winston and Julia Boddie and Mitford and Eva Pearl Gates, two Uncles Danny E. Gates, Melvin Aucoin and three aunts, Barbara Watford, Patsy Rotton and Margie Godwin. He leaves behind three nephews, Kameron Rotch, Karsen Gates, and Jace Bedwell, four nieces, Keely Gates, Kenadee Gates, Danica Bartram and Jace Bedwell; seven aunts; Angie Sims (Robert), Jennifer Eady (Darren), Nancy Baugh (Tommy), Linda McKee, Judy Aucoin and Dianne Goodman (Jimmy), Cathy Woodham (Chris) three uncles: Ricky Kennedy (Jenny) and Winston (Buddie) Boddie (Diane), Gregory Howell (Vivian) and step Grandparents, Don Coody (Littie Dell) and his Maternal Great Aunt Nola Howard. along with numerous cousins and friends. Visitation will be October 20, 2022, from 2pm until service time at 3pm at Magnolia Assembly of God Church located at 2166 Allen Road Grove Hill, AL 36451, burial to follow at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery.
