Peggy Carpenter Obituary

Peggy J. Carpenter, 76, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

     Ms. Carpenter was a God fearing woman that loved her family. She raised six wonderful children. She enjoyed spending time with all her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They fondly called her Nanny or Nanny Peggy. She was also known as the neighborhood Mama. She loved doing things for all the children in her community.

   Ms. Peggy, in her younger years, taught Sunday school at Barlow Methodist Church in Millry, Al. She performed on the Alabama Jubilee, and she had the opportunity to sit on the lap of Marty Robbins and sing with him. She had a true passion for writing songs and singing. She also loved to dance. Her life long dream was to sing at The Grand Ole Opry, but she never got the chance. She enjoyed going to the Old Times Fiddlers Convention and performed there several times. She was such a people person and she loved helping others. She enjoyed going to the St. Jude's and The Shriners Hospitals, visiting and singing for the children there. She was such a caregiver and encouraged many.

     Ms. Carpenter was an amazing cook and baker. She enjoyed doing so for her family and friends. Anytime someone would say anything about her weight, she would say, "I'd rather be wide with pride, than skinny without any." Her family would always say that she needed a shirt with that saying on it. Many would say that she planted so many seeds while she was on this earth.

She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Ms. Carpenter is survived by: Daughters, Teresa (David) Singleton, Sandra Kay Carpenter, and Annette (Larry) Fulford; Sons, Mark (Teresa) Carpenter and Thad Scarbrough; Sister, Pat Anderson; Brothers, Fletcher Allen (Shirley) Lybrand, Terry Lybrand and Wayne Lybrand.; Fourteen Grandchildren and Twenty-five Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Ms. Carpenter is preceded in death by: Parents, L.H. and Mae Frances Lybrand; Son, Robert Lee Scarbrough Jr;

A visitation will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Millry, Al, on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 2:00PM, funeral at 3:00 PM with Bro. Carey Sanderson officiating, and interment to follow at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery in Frankville, Al.
