Roland Dale Cunningham Sr.

With profound sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Mr. Roland Dale Cunningham of Leroy, Alabama, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Mr. Dale lived a life shaped by simplicity, humility, and a deep appreciation for nature’s gifts. Whether hunting, fishing, farming, or crafting with wood, he found joy in the outdoors and could build nearly anything his hands touched. But his greatest happiness came from time spent with family, especially his cherished grandchildren and beloved great grandbaby. To them, he was "Papaw” to others, “Pops”, a figure of warmth and wisdom who shaped generations through quiet example.

He was most content in places where he could embrace the freedom of going shirtless, always wearing his trusty ballcap, a signature that marked his everyday adventures. Mr. Dale’s stories, woven from memory, bridged the past and present, offering lessons and laughter. He embraced new joys, finding fascination in TikTok videos, and delighted in watching his loved ones play ball, celebrating their victories and sharing in their excitement. Though our hearts are broken, his legacy lives on in the love he imparted and the values he instilled. Mr. Dale will forever be treasured—a guiding light whose presence will be sorely missed, but whose spirit endures in all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Roland (Skyler) Cunningham Jr. and Adam (Grace) Cunningham. brother, Larry (Mary) Cunningham. sisters, Linda (Frank) Atcheson, Brenda (John Ike) Atchison, Helen Turner and Hazel (Fred) Champion. grandchildren, James Cunningham, Raden Cunningham, Destinie Cunningham, Kaytlin Robins, Brylan Cunningham and Lane Brouder. greatgrandchild, Cooper Cunningham.

He is Preceded in death by, his wife Rachel Simpson Cunningham. parents, J.D Cunningham and Opelene Doggett Cunningham. brother Perry Cunningham.

Services are a visitation Saturday April 4, 2026 at 12:00PM to 1:00PM at St. Stephens Funeral Home Interment to follow at the Cunningham Family Cemetery at 1450 Pruitt Road Leroy, Alabama
