Shirley Ann Vincent Ikner - A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted prayer warrior, peacefully entered into her eternal home in Heaven on December 10, 2024, at Washington County Hospital in Chatom, Al, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 6, 1936, in Graham, KY, Shirley often reminisced to her children how she would go to sleep in Alabama but dream of Kentucky, her first home. As a child, her favorite pastime was reading.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Leroy, Shirley served as a Sunday School teacher and Church Librarian. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother to five children. She was deeply involved in their lives attending many band events, football games, and baseball games. Known for her faith and strong belief in prayer, Shirley will be remembered best sitting at her table, studying her Bible and lifting her family up in prayer.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lucille Vincent; her infant sister Peggy and sister Janet Shirkey; and her cherished daughter, Carolyn Ikner. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-eight years, David P. Ikner, her four sons, Keith (Christy) Ikner, Kent (Kim) Ikner, John Ikner, and Jim (Cindy) Ikner; eight grandchildren, Shanna, Melanie, Robert, Gregory, Kara, Caleb, Kate, and Courtney; eighteen great-grandchildren, Madeline, Bryline, Shelby, Addi, Hunter, Corbyn, Preston, Malcom, Ty, Emerson, Lily, , Ellie, Bre, Jett, Lincoln, Jones, Ella, and Owen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM, funeral at 2:00 PM with Bro. Ben Posey and Bro. Dave Delegal officiating, interment to follow at Leroy Baptist Church Cemetery, where Mrs. Shirley Ikner will be laid to rest.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Ikner, Caleb Ikner, Robert Ikner, Hunter Armstrong, Mark Blount and Austin Benton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her neighbors: Larry and Alliece Massey, Ronnie and Linda Renfroe, Mike and Sue Cartee, and Jason and Melanie Massey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, First Baptist Church of Leroy, or the Leroy Volunteer Fire Department.
