Walter Elmore Obituary

Walter Ray Elmore, a native of Washington County, Alabama, passed away after a lengthy illness on May 5, 2020 in the presence of his children.  Walter was a talented carpenter and cabinetmaker by vocation and had served for several years as a minister with the Southern District of the Assemblies of God Church. 

Walter was predeceased by his father Benjamin “Frank” Elmore and his mother, Lina Mae Goldman Elmore; his sisters, Ella Henson and Mabel Wynn; his brothers, James “Jack” Elmore, Broadus Elmore and Willie Frank Elmore; brother in laws, Charlie Henson, Jack Wynn, Jesse Wallace Henson and Joe Moss; Wives, Ruth Lindsey Elmore and Lois Elmore.

He is survived by his brothers, Jimmy (Ann) Elmore and John David (Arneda) Elmore his sisters, Kathleen Henson and Audrey Moss, sister-in-laws, Juanita Henson Elmore, Virginia Tyson Elmore and Frances Norton Elmore, sons Ralph Lee (Wendy) Elmore, Steve Ray (Donna) Elmore, Timothy Lynn Elmore, John Mark Elmore; daughters, Annette (Phelan) Johnson, Elizabeth (Ray) Stringer, Sarah (Solon) Sherer; stepsons, Emmett McCollum, Robert (Lisa) McCollum and Timothy McCollum.

He will always be remembered as “PawPaw Walter Ray” to his numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, daughters and sons of the heart and Olivia Henson Lloyd, the mother of his children, who all loved him, and cared for him through all his years here on earth. He was known as “Pops” to his sons and his hunting buddies, Emery “Hoss” Patrick and Mickey Godwin and as “Doc” to his family, friends and co-workers. 

His pallbearers both active/honorary will be his grandsons: Lee Elmore, Michael Elmore, Jonathan Ray Elmore, Levi Elmore, Michael Makely, Zachary Johnson, Joshua Kelly, Christopher McCollum, Solon Rodger Sherer, Hunter Stephen Sherer, Jonah Scott Sherer, Dakota Sherer and Daniel Sherer.
