William Barney Lee Deese

      William Barney Lee Deese, 75, passed away at his home on October 26, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.

     Mr. Deese was born to his parents, John and Beatrice Dees on August 17, 1948 in Chatom, Al. He was one of six siblings, having three brothers and two sisters. 

     Mr. Deese, in his younger years, became a truck driver. He enjoyed going new places and seeing new things.. After twenty long years on the road, he decided it was time to retire and spend more time with his family.

     Mr. Deese loved working on lawn mowers and other small engines, but he also worked on some small vehicles as well, in his spare time. He was known as one of the best mechanics around to his family and friends. He once helped someone fix their car over the phone, sight unseen. If he wasn't working on his mowers, you could find him proudly admiring them from his front porch sitting in his favorite rocking chair.

     Mr. Deese also enjoyed going fishing, eating fried catfish, watching Alabama football and listening to gospel music. One of his favorite songs was Alan Jackson's, I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You, which you can hear playing as you're reading about his life. He was blessed with six children, sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and they all fondly called him "Paw-Paw." 

     Mr. Deese was much loved and cared for by his family.

Preceded in death by: his parents, John Wesley Deese and Beatrice Heathcoe Deese, his brothers, James Wesley Deese and Robert Eugene Deese, his sisters, Shirley Richey and Geneva Brown and his granddaughter, Apryl Pierce

         A Graveside service will be held at the Yellow Pine Cemetery on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm with Bro. Johnny Coker officiating and St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.
