William David Carpenter

William David Carpenter, 80, of Millry, Al, was called home on Saturday, January 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

     Mr. Carpenter married Mrs. Bobbie Jean Gilley on August 13, 1966. They were married for fifty-eight years. In their life journey together, they raised three beautiful children, Monte, Brock, and Tammy.

     Mr. Carpenter was a loving husband, father, and Papa. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan, and enjoyed fishing and carpentry work. When he retired from Brown and Root in January 2001, the love of his life, Mrs. Bobbie, and he, bought a camper and started traveling where they made some of their most fondest memories. Among the traveling, fishing, and carpentry work, he enjoyed getting together and spending time with his family, whether it be watching the Tide Roll, or just having a family BBQ. The grands fondly called him Papa and he loved them beyond measure and likewise, they loved him. 

     Mr. Carpenter was a gentle, kind soul and would help anyone if they were in need. His generosity towards others was one among many other traits God had blessed him with. This world was a better place having him in it. He will no doubt be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Jean Carpenter; sons, Monte (Jessica) Carpenter, Brock (Shannon) Carpenter; daughter, Tammy (Michael) McRae; brother, Willie Howard Carpenter; grandchildren, Michaela McRae, Austin (Joley) McRae, Joseph McRae, Brianna Carpenter, Logan (Hannah) Carpenter, and Kiersten Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Miles McRae and Ridge Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter is preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Mary Ella Carpenter

A two-hour visitation will be held at New Life Church in Chatom, Al. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM, funeral at 12:00 PM, with Bro. Danny Wilson and Bro. Michael McRae officiating, and interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Millry, Al. Directed by St. Stephens Funeral Home.
