Willie Jack Nichols, 85, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Mobile Infirmary. Born to William Jackson and Lucy Nichols on July 31, 1937, Mr. Willie later met and married Leavern Pugh. They were married for 51 years and raised their children in Clarke County. A dedicated member of Stave Creek Baptist Church, Mr. Willie was a Sunday School teacher who loved to read his Bible. He also sang tenor with the Tidesmen Quartet for many years.
Many in Clarke and Washington County will remember him as the one who gave them their driver license test. He was an Alabama State Trooper for 32 years and worked in the driver license division in Chatom for 30 of those years. His son Brian followed him into the Trooper service but tragically lost his life in an accident.
Known as a meek, mild-mannered man, Mr. Willie enjoyed working in his garden and with his fruit trees. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren, who called him Pawpaw, and watching Alabama football. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.
